Hey beauties! Today I want to share with you some homemade exfoliating scrubs. My skin is so dry from the winter and really needs a good exfoliation. I have purchased exfoliators, expensive and affordable brands and have not seen much of a difference in my skin, mostly the skin on my face. I have terrible dry patches..ugh they drive me nuts! So I went on a search for something more natural and homemade that I can use on my skin.
Here is what I have found and have tried.
Soothing Oatmeal Scrub (simple scrub)
1 tablespoon of ground Oatmeal
Pinch of salt
1 teaspoon of warm milk (milk should be warmed up and comfortable to touch)
Mix ingredients together to form a paste. Apply and rub in circular motion (this helps to remove the dead skin) into your skin. Let sit for 5 to 10 mins. Rinse with warm water then again with cold water. Follow with your favorite moisturizer.

Nourishing Oatmeal Face Scrub
1 teaspoon Milk (whole milk preferably)
1 teaspoon Honey
1 teaspoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Mix these ingredients together then add
1 tablespoons of ground Oatmeal
Leave paste in bowl for 3-5 minutes to let the oatmeal soften. When softened gently massage into skin for 1-2 minutes. Let sit for 5-10 minutes. Rinse with warm water and then with cold water. This scrub is great! It exfoliates, softens and moisturizes your skin.
When I made this scrub I made too much so I stored the extra in an air tight container and stored it in the fridge. It will only last up to 3 days, so you can use it again then. One thing to remember is you should only exfoliate your skin up to two times a week.

Brown Sugar Facial Scrub
This scrub is less harsh on your skin then the oatmeal scrub.. if you have sensitive skin you may want to start with the brown sugar scrub.
1/2 cup of honey
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon olive or coconut oil
1 drop of essential oil (I used lavender)
Mix ingredients together. Apply to skin and massage in a circular motion. Rinse with warm water, follow with a moisturizer.

Here is a homemade scrub for your entire body! Love this as well and smells amazing!
Lavender Sugar Body Scrub
1 cup sugar ( I used brown sugar)
1/2 cup coconut oil
5 drops of Lavender essential oils
Mix sugar and coconut oil in a bowl or in a jar, add in your lavender oil. No need to moisturize after, coconut oil is a great moisturizer!
I have not tried the body scrub yet.
I am going to make it this week and will add pictures to the post and let you know how I like it!

Exfoliating Tips
*Skin renews itself in the night, so morning is the best time to exfoliate.
*Remember to only exfoliate 1-2 times a week, over exfoliating may tear the skin.
* Exfoliate before shaving!

Hi Melanie! Yes for sure... following you on all now!
DeleteThese sound like some great DIY scrubs!! I really want to give the oatmeal one a try since I know I already have all the ingredients. And thanks for mentioning the tips. Those are some great ones. I think we often do scrubs and treatments at night because we normally have more time. But on the mornings I do have more time I try to do my scrubs then!!
ReplyDeleteGlad I found you thru the Tuesday Hop.(yes I am a lil late, forgive me please)

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing:)
I will definitely try using oatmeal! For a homemade scrub I have used a mix that sounds a bit weird but it did quite good actually - olive oil, honey and baking soda :)
